KOA/PTSA Board Meeting Minutes

 

Place:  Pavilion

Date Time: 9/7/05, 6:00 p.m.

Present: Denise Dion-Scoyni, Julie Monroe, Peggy Figueroa, Linda Vinsko, Mike Pearson, VP ES, Michelle Harrington, Asst. Treasurer, David Mireles, Lisa Mireles and Sara Wall.

 

Called to order at 6:25 p.m.

 

First 2005/06 KOA/PTSA Board Meeting.  Denise opened meeting by greeting and welcoming everyone.  She stated how excited teachers, parents and students were to have David as the new Principal and Lisa as the ES Principal.  Everyone who had not signed up to join PTSA could join tonight. She also stated that she was stepping down as PTSA President and Julie Monroe was succeeding her.  Denise proceeded to introduce the new officers.

Julie Monroe, President, Peggy Figueroa, Treasurer, Linda Vinsko, Recording Secretary, Mike Pearson, VP Kula Elementary and Michelle Harrington, Asst. Treasurer.

Denise asked for a show of hands to accept new officers.

Officers were unanimously accepted.

 

From The President:  Julie thanked everyone for their PTSA Support.  She stated that Kula will have three (3) fundraisers:

1.  Kula Rock n’Bowl – November 5th. 

2.  Enchanted Evening in the Spring.

3.  Concerts both HS and ES.  Lisa Mireles stated that the ES raised $40,000 at their last               concert.

In addition, E-Script program through Safeway.

Pau Hana Nights

Lisa Mireles intervened with the Annual Giving program and grant writing.  Sara Wall explained when companies see that schools have 100% parent participation in an Annual Giving program, schools will benefit by getting the grants. 

PTSA will match $250 per grade.

In conclusion, Julie reiterated that everyone was very happy with David and Lisa.

 

Principal’s Report:  David thanked PTSA members Mike, Denise, Julie and Peggy.  He also thanked David HS VP, Heather and Talitha for all their help this summer.  He talked about the building project, K-12.  He mentioned the location of the new ES.  Eric Knudsen will meet with Planning Commission on Friday, 9/9/05 to address the water issue.  Kula is still in the planning stages.  Will start to apply for permitting and hopefully start to build this winter.  At this time, Lisa and all the ES parents left to view the proposed site for the ES.

 

Rock n’Bowl.  Steve Whitney is no longer a parent at Kula, but will continue to help with selling lanes.  Lanes are $500.00.  Michele Rundgren will be the DJ.

 

David stated; an anonymous donor donated $8,000.00 to the ES for computers.  Six laptop computers were purchased for teachers. 

 

RenWeb.  David explained how to access, etc.  Hopefully the ES, in the future, will join this program.

 

David concluded with the parent schedule pickup and the protocol of visiting with teachers.
